Report on World Evangelical Alliance regional secretaries meeting
16-23 April 2010, Kusadasi, Turkey
Summary
Five of WEA's regional secretaries met together with representatives from WEA and the WEA Leadership Institute (WEALI) in Turkey in April 2010. Despite travel problems caused by airport closures due to volcanic ash, the meeting was very profitable. Those unable to get to the meeting were connected via skype conference calls as needed.
Major topics of discussion included (a) structural issues related to how WEA functions with regional alliances (REAs) and national alliances (NEAs); (b) the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelisation (October 2010) and questions about the supposed "collaboration" between Lausanne and WEA; (c) the annual report from WEALI; (d) a report from WEA's director on HIV-AIDS; (e) planning of WEA and REA events leading up to the WEA General Assembly in 2014; (f) general status reports from each of the regions; and (g) two days of WEALI training, Essentials of Building a Healthy Alliance, with John Pearson, management consultant to WEA.
In addition, because the Seven Churches tour was cancelled, I was able to attend part of the European Alliance General Assembly which started four days later than our meeting and was severely impacted by the airport closures (only 14 out of 140 delegates arrived), and help manage skype conference calls to 21 European national alliance leaders so that there was a quorum for their business meeting.
