What's God up to on Planet Earth?
The book is written with a seeker in mind but would be an excellent resource for new believers and those wishing to share their faith with those they meet. It would be an ideal gift for unbelievers.
With the overall question in mind, What is God Up To On Planet Earth?, the first five chapters are arranged around five essential questions the gospel addresses, answered with the ‘Five R's of the Gospel'. Chapter One asks ‘Why am I here?' The answer, ‘Relationship'. That is, God created humanity for a glorious relationship of love and harmony with God, with each other, and with this glorious world. Chapter Two asks, ‘What has gone wrong with the world?' The answer, ‘Rupture'. That is, the original intention of God has been ruptured through the impact of evil and human sin through every part of God's world. Chapter Three asks, ‘What is the solution?' The answer, ‘Restoration'. This chapter centres around the person and work of Jesus and what he achieved in overcoming evil and bringing God's salvation and reconciliation. Chapter Four asks, ‘How and when will it end?' The answer, ‘Return'. The story then jumps to the end, telling the reader of the return of Christ, and gives a thrilling picture of the restoration of God's world. Chapter Five asks, ‘What do I have to do?' The answer is summed up in the heading, ‘Response'. In this chapter faith is explored.
The final chapter guides the reader to what they need to do next.
Throughout the book, Mark Keown provides personal testimony. He avoids dogmatism on matters of indifference, focusing on those things that are essential to the gospel. Endnotes provide the reader with different points of view and biblical references. An appendix guides the reader to a range of other books and websites where they can grow in their understanding.
Craig Blomberg, renowned New Testament scholar and author from Denver Seminary writes: Many Christians have summarized their beliefs over the years in written form. But few have done so in as lively and compelling a fashion as Mark Keown. If you thought faith was dull or boring, think again - and read this book. If you thought following Jesus was just about "God and me", discover his plan for the whole universe here! If you believed it was just about "fire insurance" for a life to come, guess again. If the overall story line of the Bible seems confusing, or you're just not very familiar with it at all, you'll come to grips with that here, too, and see how it is reflected in popular culture and contrasted in other world religions. Mark is at once personally transparent and scripturally faithful. Long-time Christ-followers and those who know nothing about their faith will alike benefit from his work.
